Taipei Day 5: Desserts @ Hello Kitty Cafe

We spent an hour looking for the Hello Kitty Cafe, which was tucked in a decrepit alley, just because the directions I had found over the internet was confusing and misleading. The cafe itself is equally lacking in atmosphere. It was dimmer than I would have preferred, and not as clean as I had expected it to be. Given the profile of the cafe, I thought it would be in a more upmarket location.

You can't miss the pink entrance to the cafe, amidst the row of grey.

Reasonably priced cakes and buns on display. I was initially tempted to get that huge kitty-face bun.

We were there around 2pm in the afternoon and the place wasn't crowded at all. The cafe occupies two levels, and in my opinion, the seats on the first floor are cuter than those on the second floor, but they accommodate larger groups.

Since it was only me and the boy, we were led to our table on the second floor.

There is minimum order of NT300 per person, and for that amount, you can get either a plated dessert set which includes a drink, or up to three individual cakes.

The boy chose the green tea and sweet chocolate mousse that came with mixed fruits and cream.

And chose a pot of rose tea to go along with his order.

I decided that it would be better to try as many different cakes as possible, and chose a dark chocolate mousse, a cheesecake, and a tiramisu.

My polka-dotted dark chocolate mousse with strawberry jam on the top was yummy!

The cheesecake wasn't bad either, but I am impartial to tarts.

There are raisins in the cheesecake :D, which makes for a super happy boy!

Just as we thought we were done (we had a bit of trouble polishing off the four cakes), we were served mango pudding. I'm guessing it's complimentary. A pity I did not manage to get a shot of it intact, as the boy was a little too eager to devour it.

Directions: From Zhongxiao Fuxing Station Exit 3 (opposite Sogo), walk towards Omega (a couple of steps away) and turn right into the first alley. It should take you less than 5 minutes. Alternatively, you may use exit 15 of the East Metro Mall. The cafe is along the alleyway just outside the exit.
